The Singapore Committee for UN Women invites you to celebrate the fourth annual International Day of the Girl Child with us. The theme for this year focuses on adolescent girls and the Sustainable Development Goal on gender equality.

We will be screening "The Boxing Girls of Kabul", a documentary follows young women boxers and their coach, Sabir Sharifi, at Afghanistan's female boxing academy, as these athletes face harassment and threats in their efforts to represent their country in international competition and attempt to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games. Training takes place at Ghazi Stadium, Afghanistan's national stadium, which had previously been the site for executions by the Taliban. Learn the stories of these young Afghan women's dream of representing their country as boxers at the 2012 Olympics, embarking on a journey of both personal and political transformation. The film received the Best Documentary at the Viewfinders International Film Festival for Youth in Halifax (2012).

Join us in the conversation on how we can ensure a world free of discrimination and stereotypes for young girls! I am #ProudtobeaGirl.
